Forest Row man found dead at home after choking

An 80-year-old man who lived in Forest Row died at his home after choking.

Anthony John was found dead at his home in Shalesbrook Lane on October 27 last year, an inquest heard.

The inquest at Eastbourne Town Hall on Thursday (May 13), heard Mr John, a retired company director, lived alone and had a number of medical issues including Type 2 diabetes and kidney problems.

On October 27 around 11.15pm police officers were called to attend the house as Mr John’s children hadn’t heard from him and became concerned about his welfare, the inquest heard.

At 11.25pm officers forced entry in the home and found Mr John upstairs.

Paramedics confirmed Mr John had passed away, with the post mortem revealing he had died from choking.

East Sussex coroner Alan Craze ruled Mr John’s death was accidental.
