Football fans charged

THREE man have been charged with public order offences following football chants at a match between Eastbourne Borough and Crawley Town.

Police started investigating the incident following complaints that a small group of fans were using abusive chants towards a police officer during the game at Priory Lane on March 22.

Matthew Butler, 36, of Hawkins Road, Crawley; James Butler, 19, of Beeches Crescent, Crawley; and Ross Mitchell, 19, of Fernhurst Close, Crawley; have all been charged with using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour to cause harassment, alarm or distress.

The three were bailed to appear at Eastbourne Court on April 12.
