Approximately 70 students took to the floor and performed throughout the day taking shoppers by complete surprise.

For the flashmob the academy had prepared a dance routine to Breaking Free from the smash hit High School Musical which brought lots of cheer and excitement to the precinct on a sunny day.

Principal of PQA Eastbourne Holly Saunders said, “The weather was beautiful and we had a huge crowd, with more than 30 people signing up for a taster day at the academy.

“The students were incredible and performed pieces throughout the morning 11am to 1pm.

“Solo’s, duets, dance groups, musical numbers, acting pieces, acting workshops and so much more, it was fantastic.”

The Pauline Quirke Academy Eastbourne is a weekend performing arts school for 4-18 year olds, with core modules in comedy and drama, musical theatre and film and television which teach a range of skills. The academy says the skills are useful for everyday life, not just a career in performing arts.

PQA was started by actress Pauline Quirke and her producer husband Steve Sheen in 2007 with an Academy in their local town Beaconsfield.

PQA Eastbourne runs on Saturdays from 9.45am to 1pm at The Bishop Bell Church of England School, Priory Road, Eastbourne.
