A student from Eastbourne has designed a “Flaming Pier” whisky bottle - inspired by the town’s most iconic structure.
Conor McHugh, 20, was originally from Hampden Park, but has been living in Hellingly since 2006.
He is studying Graphic Design at NUA (Norwich University Of The Arts), and is in his third year of the course.
His Flaming Pier design was for a competition which was part of his university course.
“The competition brief was set by Blue Marlin, a big design firm based in London and NYC, to create a ‘fictional alcoholic drink inspired by your home town’,” said Conor.
“The brief also asked how the product could do good, so I loved the idea of creating a drink that would benefit Eastbourne.
“I think the Pier is a really important icon of the town for everyone, and a delicate subject for most Eastbourners.
“I wanted to honour its memory and help fund its revival after it took a big hit last year. A few months ago the pier was still mainly a wireframe mesh on the sea front, so the main idea for my packaging was to take that and turn it into something appealing and iconic. The drink needed to be fiery to fit the theme, so a smoking hot whisky carried the idea through nicely.
“Another reason for choosing whisky was actually the elderly demographic of Eastbourne. A bit cheeky, but a nice nod to the culture.”
