First look at multi-million Eastbourne Arndale extension The Beacon

Today the multi-million pound Arndale Centre extension opened to the people of Eastbourne.

There was mince pies and candy floss being handed out as its new stores New Look, Schuh and Flying Tiger flung open their doors at about 10am.

Paperchase is set to open tomorrow (December 1) and Jack Wills is due to open early December.

In addition, Premier League football club Brighton & Hove Albion opened a temporary shop in the extension from today to December 23.

A two-day event will launch the full switchover from the Arndale to The Beacon today and tomorrow.

The event also marks the opening of the link-through from the existing centre to the new extension when shoppers will be able to walk through the new mall, that will be opened up next to River Island, and continue to where new stores H&M, Next and FatFace are already trading.

An eight-screen cinema and restaurants will open next spring when a formal opening of the extension will take place.

There was music from choir Concentus from 12.30pm.

The extension is being funded by Legal & General.
