This is the first impression available of how the new so called transport hub will look outside Eastbourne Railway Station.

The drawing shows a bus stop just off the roundabout where Terminus Road meets Station Parade and an entrance in to a new area for taxi drivers to be able to pick up and drop off passengers.

Work is currently ongoing outside the railway station as part of the major development by East Sussex County Council’s highways department.

No artist’s impressions have been released by the county council which says this is the only drawing which indicates how the new hub will look when it is completed.

Work started on the multi million pound town centre scheme to improve conditions for pedestrians and buses in Eastbourne in September.

the county council and and Eastbourne Borough Council’s Town Centre Improvement Scheme will include pavement widening and the installation of new bus stops, street furniture and street lights.

The first phase of the work saw changes to Eastbourne Railway Station’s forecourt making it accessible to station licenced cabs only.

All private hire cabbies are using a new larger customer drop off and pick up point in Ashford Road, under the new station canopy.

The councils say that as well as creating a larger and more efficient taxi rank, the redesign will improve pedestrian access to the Enterprise Centre.

Additionally a new bus stop is being incorporated in the station forecourt area, enabling easy access to and from the station for public transport users.
