The results stem from a survey carried out by family run Skoda dealership Station Garage in Horsham, who questioned hundreds of South-East based residents about their favourite drive, taking into consideration the scenery, road surface, traffic and speed limits.

With 32% of those questioned championing the A23 from London to Brighton, closely followed by 23% preferring the A272 from Horsham to Winchester and just 9% voting for the A264 through Five Oaks, near Horsham, the survey offered an interesting insight into drivers’ top three preferences in the county.

Other roads in the region fared reasonably evenly, with 6-7% of respondents voting for the A21, A24, A29, A259, and A281.

Trailing behind with just 3% of votes was the A27 which spans Whiteparish in Wiltshire to Pevensey on the East Sussex coastline.

James Thorpe, Dealer Principal at Station Garage in Broadbridge Heath, commented: “As a family run dealership proud to be situated in Sussex, we were intrigued to find out what drivers in the South-East thought our best roads were. We only moved our dealership’s premises into the county a few years ago but the difference in roads, drivers’ road etiquette and general environs is actually quite distinctive.

“I think we can sometimes forget how lucky we are to be surrounded by such stunning scenery and, although there are always going to be issues with road surfaces and unexpected maintenance, the roads throughout our county offer some of the best drives in the UK.”
