Festive fun at Alfriston’s Dickensian night

THE ALFRISTON community is getting into the festive spirit with its popular Dickensian evening once again.

The fun-filled event will take place on Saturday December 3 and will begin at 3pm with Morris Men dancing in the village square.

The High Street will be closed to traffic and visitors can park for free at Drusillas and use a park and ride scheme to travel into the village. The cost of the return trip on the bus is £2.

Victorian teas will be served at the War Memorial Hall and between 3.30pm and 4.30pm children can visit Father Christmas himself in his Grotto at the Coach Yard House.

Other entertainment includes carols from Alfriston School pupils and Hailsham Bonfire Boyes and Belles, Eastbourne Scottish Pipe Band and Seaford Youth Drama Group will also be at the event to wow the crowds.

Visitors can stock up on festive goodies at the village’s shops which will be open until late with everything from chocolates, fashion accessories, goods for the home and much more on offer.

Sheila Charlton, one of the organisers and owner of Tricorn Hats, said, “We hope mother nature will be kind to us this year instead of throwing rain at us like she did last year.

“There are lots of events going on in the village.

“There will be the Scottish Pipe Band, the Expedient Jazz Band and of course Father Christmas in his Grotto.”

People can get into the spirit of things by dressing up and celebrating in true Dickensian style at the event, which finishes at 9pm.
