THE SOUTH East England Mayalee Association celebrated its eighth anniversary and Onam at Bishop Bell school earlier this month.
Onam is a harvest and state festival traditionally celebrated in Kerala which falls during the month of Chingam (August–September) and lasts for ten days.
The spectacular festival is marked by various festivities, including intricate flower carpets, elaborate banquet lunches, snake boat races.
Bishop Bell’s celebrations featured south Indian traditional arts, sports and food.
The event was inaugurated by Dr Sam Panthakalam, a consultant rheumatologist at the DGH, and member Riya Nambiar was honoured by SEEMA for achieving 10 A* at GCSE. Former president Anil Sreedharan distributed prizes for the winners.
