Family celebrates as wartime tailoress reaches 100th year

A PEVENSEY BAY woman has celebrated her 100th birthday with friends and family.

Elsie Turner was born in London and was one of 12 girls.

During the Second World War Elsie worked as a tailoress making uniforms for the troops.

She married at the age of 77 in 1989 to Eddie and the couple enjoyed holidays abroad. Thrill seeking Elsie was paragliding in Cyprus in her eighties.

Elsie and Eddie also travelled to Canada for his relatives weddings.

She moved to Eastbourne to be near nephew Howard and his wife Candy but she is still in contact with her friends Eileen and Lucy from London.

Elsie now enjoys a relaxing life at the Chardwood Rest Home in Pevensey Bay.

She celebrated her birthday with a small gathering of family and friends at the home.
