Teams have worked non-stop to empty numerous litter and recycling bins and to keep streets clean, with their focus now also on the annual leaf clearance programme.

Cllr Wallis said, “It was a real pleasure to meet the waste teams and to hear first-hand the great work that they do.

“Keeping a town the size of Eastbourne clean is not an easy task, but thanks to the hard work of all those within the cleansing teams – whether that is the physical work, dealing the logistics, or customer facing – we can all be very proud of the work that they do and I thank them for it.”

“He shared his positive experience of the service over the past year and more especially his gratitude, particularly in light of Covid-19 and the challenges faced.

“This includes significantly increased tonnages of mixed waste, dry mixed recycling and garden waste recycling, the number of fly-tipping offences, as well as challenges on the frontline, particularly the town centre, promenade and beaches for our street cleansing colleagues - all of which this herculean team has ensured are kept clean and safe at all times.”
