Chance to have your say on big homes scheme

Housebuilder Taylor Wimpey is inviting people in Hailsham to have their say on its emerging plans for a new residential development on the eastern edge of the town.

The developer is currently drawing up proposals for approximately 135 homes, including affordable housing, as well as areas of public open space on land to the east of Battle Road and north of Harebeating Lane.

The proposed development site has been allocated for residential development in Wealden District Council’s Core Strategy, and also forms part of the East Hailsham Strategic Development Area in the council’s emerging Strategic Sites Local Plan.

Taylor Wimpey’s development proposals will be displayed today (Friday) during a pre-application public exhibition taking place at Hailsham East Community Centre, in Vega Close, between 2pm and 8pm. The public consultation event will give local residents, businesses, community groups and other interested parties the chance to find out more about the scheme and discuss the plans with the Taylor Wimpey project team.

Comments received from those who attend the event will be taken into consideration as the housebuilder finalises its proposals before submitting a planning application to Wealden District Council later this year.

The proposed scheme will feature a variety of new homes, including one, two, three, four and five-bedroom properties, with a proportion of affordable housing to be provided in accordance with Wealden District Council policy.

Should the development plans be approved by the council after the public consultation is complete, Taylor Wimpey will make a number of contributions towards improving community facilities and public infrastructure in the local area through a Section 106 agreement.
