The steps down to the beach have been closed off as the area has been deemed unsafe.

Wealden District Council says rocks falls have exposed to large lumps of concrete at the cliff top edge.

Contractors have been instructed to winch these to safety today (Wednesday).

A spokesperson for the council said, “We have officers regularly attending the site to monitor the safety of the beach. As soon as it’s [ready to] re-open we’ll let you know.

“Please be cliff aware and stay away from the edge.”

The beach was initially closed on Friday (March 6) after a rockfall at the foot of the public staircase.

It is understood recent wet weather has weakened some areas of the cliffs.
