Employee’s £300,000 damages claim after disabling accident

AN Eastbourne woman who was left disabled after an accident at work has launched a legal battle for compensation of more than £300,000. Louise Mennell, 22, is demanding unlimited damages from Phones4U after an accident three years ago in which a computer stack fell onto her foot.

Following the accident on December 27, 2008, she developed severe complex regional pain syndrome, leaving her permanently disabled, according to a High Court writ.

Miss Mennell, of Coppice Avenue, Eastbourne, has suffered from serious psychological problems including depression, and is significantly handicapped in her future employment prospects.

Insurers for Phones 4U admitted liability for the accident in November 2009, the writ says. But the two sides are thought unable to agree how much compensation Miss Mennell should receive. The writ was issued by solicitors Fentons.
