More than 50,000 people cast their vote in the Eastbourne Parliamentary election yesterday (Thursday, May 7).
The official figure - 53,171 - represents 67.94 per cent of the town’s electorate. Of these votes, 52,907 were counted as valid.
The number is up on the previous election, in 2010, when 60.07 per cent of Eastbourne’s electorate turned out to vote.
Counting has begun following the verification of all votes. A result is due to be announced at 4am on Friday, May 8.
