A PENSIONER was attacked and threatened with a knife in Hailsham on Sunday night.
Police are appealing for witnesses following the attack on the 74-year-old man, who was walking along South Road at around 11.45pm when he was grabbed from behind and threatened with a knife.
The man tried to kick out at his attacker but fell to the ground and was found by a passer-by who flagged down an ambulance.
Detective Constable Karen Colbran from East Sussex CID said, “This was an appalling attack on a lone man walking home after a night out.
“The victim received a deep slash to his left cheek and was taken to Eastbourne District General Hospital for treatment and has since been discharged.
“It is still unclear if the attack was part of an attempted robbery and we are continuing with house to house enquiries and viewing CCTV from the area. If you have any information that could help police with their enquiries please call 101 quoting serial 1622 of 24/6 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
The suspect is described as a young male of medium build and was wearing dark clothing that included a hooded top.
