An elderly man had to be airlifted to hospital after falling from a second floor window in the middle of the night.

The 75-year-old man fell from the window of his flat in Silverdale Road.

He was found on Sunday (December 16) just after 10am but it is thought he fell from the window during the night.

The pensioner fell around 20 feet and sustained serious injuries as a result.

Police and ambulance services attended the scene and the man had to be airlifted to Kings College Hospital in London.

The Sussex Air Ambulance landed on the seafront in order to reach the man who was suffering from head and chest injuries.

He was taken to London to be treated by the major trauma centre.

The air ambulance arrived on scene at around 10.30am and it took the crews 32 minutes to reach Kings College in London.

The man remains in hospital and on Monday morning (December 17), police said he was in a critical but stable condition.

Police said the incident was not being treated as suspicious.
