Eastbourne's Beer Festival goes on tour
Eastbourne's annual Beer Festival may have temporarily lost its usual home while the Winter Garden is renovated but the event is going '˜on tour' instead.
The two-month festival from September 26 to November 26 will see 32 pubs join in the tour across Eastbourne, Pevensey, Polegate, Seaford and the South Downs, offering a selection of real ale and cider, plus the chance to win prizes along the way.
The tour starts with a launch event at The Lamb Inn on September 26 (from 6.30pm). Punters can pick up a free tasting passport and sample Harvey’s brews, including festival favourite, the Star of Eastbourne.
Using the tasting passport, real ale and cider fans can collect stamps at each pub along the route for the chance to claim a free festival t-shirt and win exclusive prizes.
The October beer festival is due to return next year at the newly-opened Winter Garden from October 10-12.
Councillor Margaret Bannister said, “We couldn’t let the October beer festival date go by without a nod to our wonderful local ales and ciders.
“We have an impressive array of friendly pubs and local beers on our doorstep and this is the perfect way to get out and explore while sampling some tantalising brews this autumn.”
All pubs on the tour have been selected with the help of CAMRA and local publican Shoes Simes, for their array of real ales, traditional ciders and close links to public transport on bus and rail routes.
Sponsored by Harvey’s Brewery, those taking part can pick up stamps in their passport at each pub, and be on their way to claiming a free festival t-shirt at the end of the tour. All those also reaching 25 stamps will be entered into a competition to win an exclusive brewery tour at Harvey’s in Lewes.
Festival fans can also look forward to another two evening events, with a mid-tour event at The Stage Door on October 18 and closing night on November 26 at The Eagle, both from 6.30pm.
Festival passports cost £1 each from The Lamb Inn, The Eagle or The Stage Door, or for free at the opening night at The Lamb Inn on September 26. See www.eastbournebeerfestival.co.uk.
