Eastbourne voters have until tonight to register for EU referendum

Electoral services staff at Eastbourne are gearing up for more people to register to vote in the forthcoming EU Referendum after the deadline was extended.

The Electoral Commission has now extended the registration deadline for voting in the EU Referendum until midnight tonight (Thursday).

Officials at Eastbourne Borough Council say they saw a flurry of last minute registering this week.

The government has now announced it plans to introduce emergency legislation that will allow people who make applications to register up to midnight tonight.

The referendum will be held on June 23.

Voters are also being reminded that, if they are already registered, they do not need to make a new application.
