The Eastbourne Triathlon is celebrating a huge victory after shaking off competition from multi-million pound events to win Event of the Year 2017 at the Triathlon England Awards.
Just one month after winning Event of the Year 2017 at the Triathlon South Awards, Eastbourne Triathlon went on to represent the South of England and win the national’s best event after two short years. The awards ceremony, which took place at Loughborough University, was hosted by Triathlon England, with a handpicked selection of the UK’s biggest and best events competing for major industry awards.
The judging panel commended Eastbourne Triathlon on its beautiful yet challenging location, family-friendly atmosphere and unique touches that include a bagpipe band and King of the Mountain competition at Beachy Head.
The event was recognised for its inclusive attitude that welcomes a diverse range of first timers, disabled triathletes and world class Olympians to take on the challenge.
Eastbourne Triathlon event organiser, Richard Campbell, said, “I was truly honoured to collect the award on behalf of all of our event crew, volunteers, partners and the town. This is an amazing achievement and a huge vote of confidence in our event.”
Eastbourne Borough Council lead cabinet member for tourism and enterprise, Cllr Margaret Bannister said “After just two years running it’s brilliant to see the event gaining recognition from industry experts and taking home national awards.
“We look forward to seeing what the future holds for the Eastbourne Triathlon with the support of Triathlon England.”
