An aspiring young footballer from Eastbourne has the world at his feet after winning a sport scholarship from Brighton and Hove Albion’s official charity.
Jordon Funnell, 17, first started attending Albion in the Community (AITC) football sessions at Willingdon Trees Community Centre three years ago after he was introduced by friends.
The teenager now plays futsal – a variation of football – for the Seagulls and is studying for a BTEC Diploma in Sport.
Jordon said, “It was something to do, which was regular and free. I had a natural interest in football so it was perfect for me.
“The sessions were always good fun and are very popular. The coaches are also good at managing people’s behaviour and make it enjoyable for everyone.
“I’ve met a lot of new friends and really enjoy playing futsal, training and learning.”
Jordon – who has also recently signed for Eastbourne United under-21s – plans to qualify as an FA coach.
The teenager studies at Albion’s American Express Community Stadium.
