Striking teachers have just called off their third day of action at Sussex Downs College this morning (Tuesday).
A picket line was set up at the Kings Drive entrance to the campus early this morning which coincided with Year 10 secondary school pupils arriving for a taster day.
Phil Clarke, the secretary of the local branch, said, “Due to progress made in talks with management the NUT strike at Sussex Downs College Eastbourne has been called off.”
The teachers had been striking in protest at cuts to courses and jobs.
Mr Clarke said cuts being brought in will severely undermining educational provision in Eastbourne, major A-Level courses won’t be run in Eastbourne at SDC including all foreign languages, students are being told courses won’t run just weeks before starting, the college library is to close, the counselling service cut completely and teachers are losing their jobs.
