Eastbourne students on track in cheaper rail ticket campaign

Eastbourne students from the University of Brighton will now be able to get on board with the Unizone ticket – which offers unlimited train travel along the coast for a set fare.

Previously, the Unizone only extended as far as Falmer, leaving Eastbourne students unable to take advantage of the special ticket.

The ticket currently covers Falmer, Moulsecoomb, London Road, Preston Park, Brighton, Hove, Aldrington, Portslade, Fishersgate, Southwick, Shoreham-by-Sea and Lancing.

But campaigning by the University of Brighton will see the UniZone extended to Eastbourne by May 14.

Paul Cooke, vice president of Campus Communications at University of Brighton, tweeted, “Brighton Students’ Union are delighted with this announcement, as it will make travel between Brighton & Eastbourne more accessible for a number of students.”

He also added, “However, we will not stop campaigning until the UniZone ticket has been extended to Hastings.”

According to Southern Railway’s website, a current UniZone ticket costs:

£15.30 a week

£58.80 a month

£176.30 a quarter
