An Eastbourne skater will ride his longboard on an 800-mile trip across Europe in an effort to raise money for an environmental charity.

Connor Strudwick, 20, takes on the challenge in the hope of raising funds for the reforestation charity Standfortrees.

His five-week journey from Paris to Madrid will see him pass through border crossings, mountains, small towns and areas of natural beauty.

Connor, who leaves for Paris tomorrow (March 30), said, “It sounds odd but I’m really excited about crossing the border. I’ve been to France before but never Spain.

“France is, well not flat, but flatter than Spain will be. They have mountains, the Pyrenees, not long after a you cross the border.

“I’m going to try to avoid the more dangerous roads but I think I might have to go on some.”

Connor is taking on the journey in order to raise money for Standfortrees, an environmental charity which protects against deforestation.

The charity works with communities in Madagascar, Peru and Brazil as well as several other countries, by paying local people to protect green areas.

Connor said, “I’m a big fan of the charity. I think the work they do to help the ecosystem recover and work with communities is amazing.

“I know its not a charity that many people would have picked but I think climate change is the biggest threat we face at the moment and I wanted to help a charity which helps everyone.”
