SHOPPERS at an Eastbourne supermarket have been praised for donating hundreds of pounds to this year’s Poppy Appeal.
On Saturday June 30 members of the Eastbourne Royal Sussex Regimental Association and representatives of the local British Legion presented a Royal Sussex plaque to the manager of Sainsburys, Hampden Park branch, in appreciation of their continued support for the Poppy Appeal.
David Lester, an Eastbourne-based Royal Sussex Regimental Association historian, said, “The magnificent figure of £8331.27 was raised by the generosity of Sainsburys customers last year and with the on-going conflict in Afghanistan support for our Armed Forces is more essential than ever.
“The Eastbourne Branch of the Royal Sussex Regimental Association is very vibrant and active and organises many events, it meets on the first Wednesday of every month at the Ordnance Yard, Seaside and they would welcome to their membership any ex Royal Sussex or members of the Queens Regiment.
