A student from Eastbourne is through to the finals of the Miss Great Britain competition.

Twenty-year-old Ayo Sokale will represent Sussex in the 2013 beauty pageant.

She will go head to head with other contestants at the finals, which are being held in Leicester at top club The Athena on Thursday and Friday November 14 and 15.

A former Willingdon School and Moira House pupil, Ayo lives in Willingdon but is currently studying civil engineering at Plymouth University.

She is no stranger to entering beauty pageants.

Earlier this year as the holder of the title of Miss Plymouth Galaxy, Ayo narrowly lost out in her bid to become Miss UK Galaxy.

Ayo said, “My mum and sister originally encouraged me to enter.

“As a civil engineering student it’s not the most usual thing to do, but it’s a great opportunity.

“I have raised money for various charities, including Starlight Children’s Foundation which is close to my heart.

“It’s important to give something back.”

A spokesperson for the competition said, “We are pleased to announce that the winner of Miss Great Britain Sussex 2013 is Ayo.

“Massive congratulations to Ayo and all of the finalists.”

Ayo added, “I am so pleased. To think I will be in the final is incredible and I am so looking forward to it.

“There is the interview stage and bikini parade all in November.

“It really would be lovely to win the title of Miss Great Britain.”
