Eastbourne residents are showing their love for recycling as Valentine’s Day approaches.

More than 400 people have already signed up to Eastbourne Borough Council’s Bourne to Recycle campaign launched a month ago and five of them will win £100 each in the first monthly draw.

Florist Lyndy Tester, who works at beau-k in South Street, is among those who have registered and is keeping her fingers crossed for the February draw.

She said, “Bourne to Recycle is a wonderful idea. I use my green bin but the chance of winning money every month is a massive incentive for me to make sure I’m recycling as much as possible.

“It’s also a great way of motivating people who have never recycled before.”

Bourne to Recycle, which is fully funded by central government following a successful bid to the Department for Communities and Local Government, is open to all Eastbourne households.

Every home is invited to register with the Council and to commit to recycling more of their household items.

All registered homes are entered in to a month prize draw, with cash prizes of £100 each for five lucky winners.

The aim is to increase the borough’s recycling rate, which currently stands at around 35 per cent, to nearer the government’s target of 50 per cent.

Registering is easy and takes just a few seconds.

Simply fill in the online form at Eastbourne.gov.uk/bournetorecycle or complete the paper copy available from the Council’s Customer Contact Centre at 1 Grove Road and at hundreds of shops, libraries and public spaces across the borough.
