An Eastbourne pub is calling on football fans to pick the worst players going for a chance to win £500.
The unusual request comes as the Rodmill Flaming Grill in Rangemore Drive asks locals to join its Not So Fantasy Football League for a second year.
The fantasy league, which carries a top prize of £500, sees football fans attempting to field the worst possible team from this year’s European competition.
To launch the league the Rodmill has teamed up with legendary commentator Chris Kamara, who has outlined his tips on coming top in a race to the bottom.
He said, “With so many teams in this year’s competition we’re sure to see some amazing own goals, gaffs and rash challenges.
“By focusing on those players that aren’t usually headlining the European stage the Flaming Grill Not So Fantasy Football League gives Eastbourne fans a chance to get a more rounded view of European football.
“Remember it’s a team game, so make sure you pack your defence with more leaks than a colander and create a midfield that’s as useful as a chocolate tea pot.”
Speaking about the reasons behind the launch of its Not So Fantasy Football League, Rodmill general manager Gareth Llewellyn said, “Last year we scoured the nation for the UK’s worst performing local football teams.
“To involve even more Eastbourne footy fans this year we thought why not take it to the international stage and let guests select their own team of flops, bottlers and hatchet men.
“With 51 games over four weeks this is the biggest European football tournament to date. With more countries than ever before, we thought what better way to support Eastbourne football fans than to give them a reason to follow some of the lesser known teams and players.”
