Eastbourne MP speaks out on cancelled farms sale

This comes after Eastbourne Borough Council announced this week it would cancel the proposed sale after the public strongly voted against it in an opinion poll.

Mrs Ansell said, “The argument around protection of the land had not been won and the consultation with local people was deeply flawed.

“Abandoning the proposal to sell the downland farm freeholds was the only decision possible under these circumstances.

“This was always a much bigger decision than simple asset management and through the campaign to keep the downlands in public ownership we’ve seen just how highly precious, how loved our beautiful natural environment is.”
