Eastbourne mother of two, 40, passes away

Paramedics and ambulance staff tried to revive Laura Bishop at the home she shared with her two daughters in Magdalen Close, Eastbourne, but died despite their efforts.

The inquest into her death on Thursday at Eastbourne Town Hall heard a post mortem revealed Miss Bishop had been suffering from bronchopneumonia and had also been drinking on the day she died – April 8 2020.

East Sussex coroner James Healy-Pratt was told Miss Bishop, who lost a baby son at the age of six months some years previously, had complex post traumatic stress disorder, had suffered with her mental health and believed she had ME as she felt constantly tired and weak.

Miss Bishop’s father Alan said he was looking after his two granddaughters since their mother’s death.

Mr Healy-Pratt recorded a verdict that Miss Bishop’s death was due to natural causes.

Miss Bishop wrote a book about her experiences after the death of one of her twins, Luke when he was six-months-old.

She penned The Cot Death Notebook to raise awareness of Sudden Unexpected Death in Infancy Syndrome – more commonly referred to as cotdeath.

Luke died as he slept on Laura’s chest at the family home.

At the time Miss Bishop, who lived at The Portlands with Luke’s surviving twin, Emma, said she wrote the book as a constructive way of dealing with her grief.
