An Eastbourne man was found guilty of assaulting PCSO Zoe Ayres, and was handed a community order and fine by magistrates.

Robert John Walker, 38, of Ceylon Place, appeared at Eastbourne Magistrates’ Court on June 3, and was sentenced to one charge of common assault on PCSO Ayres in Ceylon Place on October 15 2014.

He was also convicted for failure to answer police bail on November 26, and committing an offence whilst subject to a conditional discharge - which was in relation to a battery offence in April 2014.

He was given a community order and told to pay £60 to the victim, and £350 costs.

Walker will pay the £410 back at £5 per week.

This comes after a man was jailed for assaulting an Eastbourne police officer, which left her with a broken leg.
