Eastbourne man arrested after attack in Rye


An Eastbourne man has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm after a 42-year-old was attacked in Rye.

The victim was assaulted as he made his way home from a pub at about 11pm on October 24 and left badly injured, with deep cuts to his face and right arm after being hit with a broken bottle and a metal bar. He was also punched and kicked.

He later received treatment at the Conquest Hospital and police began house-to-house enquiries.

A 23-year-old unemployed man from Eastbourne, a 22-year-old unemployed man from Rye and a 17-year-old boy were arrested and were still in custody this afternoon (Friday, October 25).

Other suspects are still being sought.

Detective Inspector Rob Morland, of Hastings CID, said, “This was a particularly vicious assault and we would appeal to anyone who saw what happened or who has other information to come forward.”
