Eastbourne lifeboat sent to ‘upturned dinghy’ at sea
Eastbourne RNLI was called to reports of an upturned dinghy 13 miles at sea this afternoon (May 1).
The all weather lifeboat and its crew was sent to the incident in The Channel after receiving a report from a light aircraft at around 5.20pm.
An RNLI spokesman confirmed that it was a false alarm with good intent and that what was believed to be an upturned dinghy was in fact a piece of plastic floating in the water.
The piece of plastic was recovered before the crew headed back to the station.
