Eastbourne lifeboat in search for missing person

Eastbourne inshore lifeboat was launched on Monday evening to search for a suspected missing person at Beachy Head.

Eastbourne coastguards discovered tyre tracks close to the cliff edge and raised the alarm.

A spokesperson for Eastbourne RNLI said, “Unable to see the beach as darkness descended, the assistance of Eastbourne inshore lifeboat was requested.

“The volunteer ILB launched at 5.30pm in near freezing conditions and conducted a thorough search of the area including a foot patrol of the beach.

“With nothing found, the search was eventually called off two hours later and the crew returned to station for a well earned cup of hot tea.”
