The lifeboats were launched on Sunday to search for two missing kayakers.
The alarm was raised by family members of the kayakers concerned they were overdue.
An Eastbourne lifeboat spokesperson said, “Initially the inshore boat conducted a shoreline search from Eastbourne Pier to Norman’s Bay.
“With nothing found the all-weather lifeboat crew members were requested to join the search.
“Fortunately, as the volunteer lifeboat crew were preparing to launch, the missing kayakers returned to shore unharmed and unaware of the consternation they had caused.
“Both lifeboat crews were stood down and returned to station.”
The lifeboat was also launched on Saturday to a yacht which had suffered engine failure enroute to Sovereign Harbour.
