Jürgen Matthes has been taking German students to Eastbourne since 1982.
Over 1,000 students visit the town each year and most students come back more than once to visit our seaside town.
Jürgen Matthes said “They (the students) love it. So many return for second, third and fourth trips. The record is 14”.
The organisation set up in 1982 takes students from all over Germany to England to learn the English language and to practice what they learn in school.
One student described Eastbourne’s residents as very friendly giving him help when he needs it.
Most of the students said that they love the seafront and the pier.
“Young people like coming to Eastbourne for the safe environment for the attractive town we have and for the historic town that we have.” Those were the words of one of the JM leader Tom, who has worked within the student industry for the last 8 or 9 years.
He believes Eastbourne offers a safe and positive place for the students to learn English and experience the British culture.
