An actress from Eastbourne is at the centre of one of soap land’s biggest storylines.

Hetti Bywater, whose acting skills were honed at the Theatre Workshop Stage School in Eastbourne from the age of 11, has played wild child Lucy Beale for the last two years after landing the EastEnders’ job aged just 17. In her time on the show she has been handed some big stories, not least when her headstrong character rescued a string of family business in the aftermath of on-screen dad Ian Beale’s breakdown.

However, none have been bigger than her character’s death – which was screened on Good Friday – and sparked the latest soap whodunnit.

The murder of Lucy Beale is the programme’s stand-out storyline with a host of characters falling under suspicion, including her secret lover Max Branning, brother Peter and dad Ian. But viewers will have to wait until next year to find out – with the cast expected to film a string of potential endings to keep the identity of her killer under wraps. The final revelation will be central to the soap’s 30th anniversary celebrations.

In a recent interview the actress confirmed even she does not know who killed her but said she was excited by the storyline and pleased her character would have a lasting impact on the show.
