An Eastbourne couple’s car caught fire while they rushed to hospital for treatment today (September 26).
A man was being rushed to hospital to treat a gardening injury when the car he was travelling in caught alight on Cross Level Way in Hampden park at around 2.22pm.
The road is now closed between Sainsbury Roundabout and Rodmill Roundabout
Emergency services say they cannot re-open the road until the car is cool enough to move, which could be at least eight hours.
Highways agency is setting up a diversionary route to .
The fire is thought to have been caused by a mechanical fault.
The couple has been taken on to hospital.
