Tama the Extraordinary Cat is the sixth book Jill Rutherford, who lived in Japan for seven years, has written.

She said, “I read about Tama and was amazed at her story. Having lived in Japan for seven years I knew the culture and thought to myself that this could only happen in Japan. The way the cat was revered and elevated through the ranks of a railway company, ending up as its president and finally, after dying of old age, was made a Shinto Goddess.

“I wrote the book for children but it can be enjoyed by all cat lovers whatever their age.”

Jill’s bestselling memoir, Cherry Blossoms, Sushi and Takarazuka, Seven Years in Japan was her first book, followed by Secret Samurai Trilogy, a historical adventure of two female samurai set in the civil war that dragged Japan into the modern world.

The Rocking Stone is Jill’s latest novel set in the South Wales mining valleys of the early 20th century and tells the story of Kate who suspects her husband of being a murderer.

She said, “Writing is a compulsion for me and I love history, therefore all my novels have an historical theme full of adventure and intrigue in different ages and cultures.”
