East Sussex man stars in Netflix series Daredevil

An actor from East Sussex is lighting up the small screen as cartoon hero Daredevil.

Charlie Cox has swopped the quiet leafy lanes of Forest Row for the mean streets of New York’s Hell’s Kitchen for his role in the American show.

Charlie, 33, was born in London and brought up in East Sussex – the youngest of five children. He attended the independent school Ashdown House in Forest Row, before boarding at Sherborne School in Dorset.

He then trained at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. Other roles have included the lead in the film Stardust, alongside Robert de Niro and Michelle Pfeiffer, and the popular television series Downtown Abbey and Boardwalk Empire.

Stage roles have included Harold Pinter’s The Collection at the Ambassadors Theatre in London and Kleist’s The Prince of Homburg at the Donmar Warehouse.

Cox’s current role is of blind lawyer Matt Murdock, who moonlights as crime-fighting hero Daredevil. Co-stars include Vincent d’Onofrio and Rosario Dawson.

Daredevil is one of Netflix’s most highly rated shows and Charlie has won a Helen Keller Achievement Award for his role from the American Foundation for the Blind.

The first season of the show premiered in April last year, while the second series launches today (Friday, March 18). All episodes are now available to download.
