DYW: Hampden Park - December 15, 2010

NOW WE have our very own village Christmas lights this year, everyone can enjoy the festivities in the village, in Brassey Parade, on December 18 from 3pm. There will be carol singers, plus various fun things for the whole family, so do go along, join in and enjoy a real feeling of Christmas.

NEARLY time for the children to break up for the Christmas holidays, with parties to look forward to. One your offspring will not want to miss is on Wednesday December 22, 9am-1pm at the Hampden Park Sports Centre in Brodrick Road. For those between four and 12, there is a great Christmas party, with presents from Santa, a bouncy castle, lots of games, great food and a disco. To book your child’s place, call Jim on 01323 509859.

WHO WOULD like a really interesting and ‘different’ Christmas present this year, that lasts for the whole year and never fades, falls to pieces or needs watering? The answer is - get a friend or relative to buy you a year’s membership to the Hampden Park Indoor Bowls Club, which nestles inside our lovely Hampden Park itself?

You can learn to play bowls or simply become a social member, and join the many all-year round events, from Scrabble, whist, cribbage, to Saturday night bingo, and lots more besides. The facilities are excellent and everyone is friendly and welcoming.

If you join for Christmas, you can then go along as a fully-fledged member on New Year’s Day and join fun bowls, a raffle, refreshments - and you can even go in fancy dress if you would like! For more details call the club on 01323 506009, or have a look at their excellent website www.eastbourneindoor.bowlsclub.info

THE SPOTLIGHT Players’ annual panto, Beauty and the Beast, held in St Mary’s Church Hall, was a huge success in spite of the weather!

In order for the cast and audience to get in for the first performance on the evening of Friday December 3, the Players dug a pathway through the snow from the road to the door for everyone to get in! All four performances were well-attended, and two were a total sell-out.

The panto is the last fundraising event for this year, and when all the proceeds are added up, a very substantial donation will be made to a local charity - details to follow, watch this space!

On Thursday January 13, the committee will discuss what events will take place for the year, and which other local charity their proceeds will go to. They are always on the lookout for new members, so if you would like to join in the fun, ring Wanda on 01323 461049 for details.

A DOG is for life, not just for Christmas, but if you are lucky enough to acquire such a faithful, long-term friend, why not start them off on the right foot with local puppy socialising classes and later, dog training classes?

Not only are these classes great fun for both dog and owner, you can now benefit from a totally new concept in training, new to this country from the US of A, where it enjoys huge success. It is called rally obedience, (Rally ‘O’) and teaches in a completely different and even more fun way than we already have.

For a demonstration, a general chat and refreshments, make a date in your new diary for Friday, January 7, in St Mary’s Church Hall, Decoy Drive at 7pm. You don’t have to take your dog, just go along and see what is involved, you will be amazed.

The Rally ‘O’ is being run by Angela Lucas, who has more than 25 years’ experience in all aspects of dog training, with Angela’s Canine Academy.

She already runs regular puppy classes in the hall, and also responsible dog ownership classes, plus if you and your dog enjoy the great outdoors you can go to her agility classes held at a farm near Beachy Head. More details from Angela on 01323 500900.
