TRINITY DINERS: The next Trinity Diners’ lunch at Trinity Church Hall in Coppice Avenue is to-day Friday October 16 at 12 noon. The menu will be fruit juice, chicken and ham pie or vegetable pie, new potatoes and seasonal vegetables, followed by apple sponge and cream and tea or coffee. BINGO NIGHT: Friends of Willingdon Community School in Broad Road are organizing a Family Bingo Night at 7pm to-day Friday October 16. It is just £1 a card and there are some large cash prizes to be won. Bring your own drinks and nibbles. Just turn up on the night. It should be fun.

LOCAL HISTORY: Polegate and Willingdon Local History Society will be meeting from 7pm to 9pm to-day Friday October 16 at St John’s Church Hall Polegate for their AGM which will be followed by a talk entitled ‘The Story of Edith Cavell. Visitors are welcome. The fee is just £2.

BRITISH QUEEN: Rockaround will be entertaining customers at the British Queen from 8.30pm on Saturday October 17.

LADIES’ FASHIONS: A sale of ladies’ fashions will be held from 10am to 2pm on Saturday October 17 in St Mary’s Church Hall Church Street Willingdon. Sizes are from 10 to 16 and are marked at under half shop prices. They include knitwear, T-shirts, trousers, skirts, blouses, coats, dresses and scarves – all brand new manufacturers’ samples from top fashion houses.

MAYOR’S CHARITIES: Eastbourne Mayor Cllr Janet Coles’ two chosen charities for her year in office are Eastbourne RNLI and the JPK Sussex Project which aims to provide a supported residential centre for people with a learning disability. The project co-ordinator of JPK is Jill Parker MBE - a Willingdon resident. The next mayor’s charity event to be held is a barn dance on October 17 at the Winter Garden. It is at 7pm for 7.30pm until 11pm. Tickets are £20 for adults and £10 per child and include a Tex Mex buffet. RAMBLING: Willingdon Rambling Group will be meeting at Chalk Farm in Coopers Hill Willingdon at 10.30am on Monday October 19 starting with a drive to Herstmonceux ready for a fairly flat circular five mile walk. LONELY AT CHRISTMAS: A new initiative is being considered at St Mary’s Church Willingdon for people who may be on their own on Christmas Day and would like some company and a meal cooked for them. It would be held in the church hall and is not just for church goers but for anyone in the local community who would otherwise be on their own. The cost would be kept to a minimum – just to cover the food. Please ring Mrs Susan Freeman on 01323 505833 for further information. DEMENTIA FRIENDS SESSION: An informal session, which will give people a better understanding of what it means to live with memory loss and the effects that it has on their families will be held from 10am to 12pm on Thursday November 5 at Sunrise Senior Living at 6 Upper Kings Drive Willingdon. WHIST: A whist drive is held every Tuesday afternoon at 2pm at Willingdon Memorial Hall in Church Street. The cost is £2.50 per session to include a raffle. All are welcome.

BRIDGE: Wannock Downs Bridge Club is looking for new members, preferably those with some knowledge of duplicate bridge. It is a very friendly club. The players meet every Thursday afternoon from 1.30pm to 4.30pm at Wannock Village Hall. The cost is £2.50 for each session which includes tea and biscuits.
