Stone Cross, Westham and Hankham

MY WIFE AND I: had a most enjoyable evening last Monday when we attended the 30th Anniversary of the foundation of the Pevensey and Westham Historical Society. The Chairman, Mr Ian Say, took the meeting through the various national events that occurred at the time of the formation of the Society (Margaret Thatcher was the Prime Minister and Edwina Currie declared that all the eggs in UK were infected with salmonella) and also paid tribute to the founder members, several of whom were at the meeting. The Society has an average strength of approximately 100 members but is always looking to new members and with a subscription fee of only £3.50 (£6 for two at the same address) it is not expensive. Meetings are held on the 1st Monday every month (with the exception of January and August). For more information about the Society please contact the Secretary on 01323 472721.

STONE CROSS WINDMILL: will be open to the public over the weekend of September 7/8 to help celebrate Heritage Weekend, when all heritage sites and public buildings in the country are open free of charge.

SUSSEX RIDE AND STRIDE:. The Sussex Ride & Stride is a sponsored ride (bike or horse) or walk in which people all over Sussex walk or cycle between churches, exploring and enjoying the countryside (from Cornwall to Northumberland). It takes place every year and churches will be open to assist all those taking part in the event, providing refreshments and help as needed. Donate today to help save historic churches for future generations.
