Stone Cross, Westham and Hankham

THE WESTHAM VILLAGE CONSERVATION Group: walk along Peelings Lane in April was attended by 16 people who were able to enjoy the Spring flowers and were able to identify 9 species of hedgerow trees and shrubs in one section of the bank which indicated that the hedges are hundreds of years old. One theory proposes that each species denotes 100 years. The next walk will take place on Sunday May 29 starting at 2 pm and anybody wishing to take part in this walk is asked to be at the pond in Westham by that time. Walkers will stroll along the lane and measure the oak trees to estimate their age. There will be free hot drinks at the Windmill and optional windmill tours. All ages welcome. Please phone Fiona on 460338 for more details. Or just come along on the day.
