Purse theft: THERE HAS BEEN AN increase in reports of purse dipping thefts over the last few weeks. Supermarkets or crowded shopping areas are often where this type of offence occurs. Victims go about their business whilst thieves target them by stealing the purse from their unattended bags or trolleys or by brushing up against them, swiftly removing the purse from a pocket or open handbag. To prevent this crime from occurring the police advise everyone to keep their purses and wallets on them at all times and make sure they are secure. Anybody carrying a handbag should keep it fastened and close to their body. A good deterrent can be to attach a set of cat bells to the purse or bag. The noise is likely to be off putting to anyone attempting theft, at the same time as alerting the owner.
