PEVENSEY CASTLE: Pevensey Castle is one of the country’s oldest and most important strongholds, the place where the story of England was forged, from William the Conqueror’s landing in 1066 to 1940s, when in WWII Pevensey Castle once more became a potential landing-place for an invasion. The Castle provides a powerful reminder of our country’s past, vital links to lives that came before our own, and is an endless source of inspiration for young and old alike. A new conservation project has begun in the Outer Bailey at Pevensey Castle: plants are being removed from ancient masonry, stonemasons re-bedding loose masonry and using bespoke lime mortars to repoint. These experts will be working to the highest standards, using the most appropriate materials to preserve the historic fabric of the site.

English Heritage has 66 castles in our care, and you can help support the provision of high-quality specialist work. Support the English Heritage Castle fund raising appeal #LOVECASTLES by visiting Pevensey Castle shop, open daily 10am to 6pm - donate £1 and collect your castle flag. Appeal runs until 31ST AUGUST 2108.
