SCARECROWS: are appearing everywhere in the villages as the build up to the finale on August 1st with a Bonfire on the Beach and Voices Choir, a balloon race and presentation of prizes. All happening at the Aqua Bar from 19.00. Cllr Lynn Clark from Pevensey Village Partnership told me last week there are now over 200 scarecrows. There was a report in the Gazette some scarecrows have gone missing, abduction? Or maybe at certain times of night when no one is watching they come to life (just like those statues in Dr Who) and wander off. Keep a look out on your street corner and listen for the rustle of straw feet behind you on a dark night.
MOVIES IN THE BAY :on July 31 from 19.30 till 21.30 The Theory of Everything will be showing at Pevensey Bay Baptist Church. After the screening there will be an opportunity for refreshments and discussion and those attending are asked if they would like to make a donation towards refreshments.
PEVENSEY VILLAGE FAMILY FUN DOG SHOW: will be running on August 29 on the Bank Holiday Weekend at the back of The Smugglers in Pevensey. Admission is free and registration starts at 10.00 with judging from 11.00. There are all kinds of classes from best puppy to best rescue dog, an open catagory for best trick or fancy dress and of course a waggiest tail class. Entry is £1.50 for each class with Rosettes to fourth place and free treats for all Canine Competitors ! I was considering taking my own dog after a swim in the Castle Moat and entering the open class as The Creature from the Black Lagoon, I’m sure he would romp home!
CASTLE COTTAGE: nothing’s happened yet but according to the Agents website its Under Offer. Rumour has it that some kind of food outlets opening but English Heritage are not revealing anything which seems a shame when they want a say on things like the proposed village sign but the will not discuss what might be happening with anyone in the vIllage !
PARISH FETE: The Pevensey Parish Fete will be taking place at the Memorial Hall on Saturday 22 August from 11 till 16.00 and the following weekend will be the annual Pevensey Flower Festival at St Nicolas.
