Hellingly and Horsebridge

HELLINGLY CHURCH: 8am Holy Communion – Hellingly, 10.45am Holy Communion. All welcome! Every Thursday 9.30am BCP Holy Communion at Hellingly. This Sunday at 5pm there is a Joint service of informal prayers and worship for our benefice at Hellingly church

BOTTLE TOPS: In an effort to rationalise the vast number of bottle tops being left in church, a new collection method is to be tried. Would people wishing to collect tops and leave them in church for transportation to Eastbourne, please get in touch with Alison Sylvester, 01323 841770, so they can be given an identification number to be included in bottle top bags. Without the number the tops cannot be used for collection. At present, about 30% of the tops are not suitable and have to be thrown away. The sorting out takes many hours. Only recycle tops with 2 4 02 or 04 within the recycle triangle symbol stamped inside the lid can be recycled. Please put other lids in your kerbside recycling.
As the lids are gathered over a period of time they can begin to smell rather badly. Please rinse out the lids before leaving them in church. This will make the job of sorting them much more pleasant! Alison is more than happy to pick up and transport to Eastbourne all bags that meet these requirements.

ADMIN & PUBLICITY VACANCY: Hellingly and Upper Dicker churches require someone to look after their administration, particularly for the many weddings and baptisms they have. With a growing programme of activities they need someone skilled in publicity and creating and looking after a web presence. Initially 15 hours a week. For more details contact the Vicar, the Rev David Farey 01323 440450 or vicar.hellingly@btinternet.com.

WANTED: Your unwanted gifts of glass, china, pottery, copper kettles, old-fashioned flat irons, those unwanted paintings you have never hung. Hellingly Church needs your hidden treasures for the Christmas Fayre in November to help keep our beautiful 12th Century church at Hellingly in good repair. Don’t put them on e-bay, put them on Yvonne and Betty’s Xmas-bay. Telephone 01323 441392 for collection if necessary. Thank you very much.

THE REAL ADVENT CALENDAR: This is a fun way for parents, grandparents and Godparents to share the Christmas story. From the same source as the Real Easter Egg the calendar comes with a free 32-page Christmas story activity booklet illustrated by Sophie Allsopp and designed to be used every day in Advent. Behind each of the 24 windows there is a Fairtrade chocolate star and a few words from the Christmas story. As well as celebrating the true meaning of Christmas, the calendar makes a charity donation from every sale to Traidcraft Exchange and the Funzi & Bodo Trust. For those who are interested Hellingly can make an order up from our churches. See David, the Vicar if interested and more information is on the website www.realadvent.co.uk.
