Down Your Way: Willingdon, Wannock and Jevington - March 30

NEW PENNANTS are needed for Polegate Windmill to replace some of the present ones which are getting old and shabby. The hope is to have the mill decorated with brightly-coloured bunting for the whole of the diamond jubilee weekend. THE 3 MMMs (Mrs, Miss & Ms) will meet at 8pm today (Wednesday) at St Mary’s Church Hall in Church Street. The speaker will be Graham Albon and his subject is entitled ‘Japan – the Nakasendo Trail.’

RED LION: It is open stage night at the Red Lion in Willingdon Village on Thursday, March 29, hosted by Richard Walder and Ron Turner. Any style of music is welcome. So do go along to entertain the customers or just sit and listen to the music. It starts at 8pm.

WANNOCK ARTISTS will meet at 7pm on Friday, March 30, at Wannock Hall. Roger Dellar will be demonstrating ‘A night scene in a city in water soluble oils’.

EASTER FAIR: Trinity Church in Coppice Avenue will have an Easter Fair from 10am to noon on Saturday March 31. Tea and coffee and hot cross buns will be served and there will be seasonal items and cakes for sale. There will also be an Easter bonnet parade so do go along in your homemade Easter bonnet.

ASTRONOMY: Eastbourne Astronomical Society will meet at 7.30pm on Saturday, March 31, at Willingdon Memorial Hall in Church Street. Doors open at 7pm. The speaker is Dr David A Rothery and his subject is entitled ‘Mercury - new views of the sun’s innermost planet’

ROCKAROUND provide the entertainment at the British Queen at Willingdon Triangle from 8.30pm on Saturday, March 31

ROBERT BROWN will be entertaining customers from 8.30pm on Saturday, March 31, at the Eight Bells in Jevington with live music.

GEZ GOLD will be entertaining customers at the Wheatsheaf in Willingdon Village from 8.30pm on Saturday ,March 31.

HOLY WEEK is from April 1 (Palm Sunday) to April 8 (Easter Sunday). At St Mary’s Church Willingdon, a devotion for congregation and choir takes place at 6.30pm on Sunday, April 1. Tuesday, April 3 at 7.30pm is the Parish Passover in the church hall. On Maudy Thursday, April 5 at 8pm the Eucharist of the last Supper with foot washing is at 8pm with watch of prayer until midnight. On Friday, April 6 (Good Friday) children’s worship is at 10am followed by hot cross buns. Later that day, devotional hour with Canon Martin Onions is from 1pm to 2pm leading to the Liturgy of the Cross and Holy Communion. On Saturday April 7 (Holy Saturday) at 8pm, the Easter Vigil will be held.

LUNCH: Members of Willingdon Probus Club meet for lunch at the Red Lion in Willingdon Village, 12.30pm for 1pm on Thursday, April 5.

SPONSORED WALK: On Easter Monday, April 9, church members will take part in the annual Easter walk to raise funds for Knowles Tooth Children’s Centre at Hurstpierpoint, run by the Chichester Diocesan Association for Family Social Work. The centre provides short residential breaks for children and families in need. The walk will be a circular starting and finishing at the Tye at Alfriston, with a refreshment stop at Wilmington. The distance is approximately seven miles. The walk will start between 9.30am and 10am. If you would like to take part call Sue on 423410.

SIDES PEOPLE are also needed at Jevington Church at the Sunday services. Duties include welcoming people at the door, giving out hymn books, taking the collection and counting it after the service. If you can help, contact the treasurer Jenny Wootton.
