Down Your Way: Willingdon, Wannock and Jevington

RICHARD Morgan, who lives in Willingdon Village, hopes to mark his 70th year with a sponsored cycle ride around 12 cathedrals in South East England.

Canon Martin Onions, vicar of Willingdon Church will match Richard mile for mile on an exercise bike in church. The distance is about 500 miles, and Richard hopes to complete it in 21 days.

The church is trying to raise £50,000 to complete the purchase of a house in the Willingdon Trees area, to place a parish worker to serve the church in the community around Willingdon Trees. To date £90,000 has been raised and Richard’s cycle ride will hopefully add a further £20,000 plus Gift Aid.

Anyone wishing to sponsor Richard, could either sponsor him for each cathedral visited, or donate for each mile covered or each day spent cycling. If enough pledges are forthcoming, it is intended to start the cycle ride on Sunday May 27.

A5 leaflets including pledge and sponsorship forms are available from church and other outlets. Alternatively ring the parish office on 501763.
